Introducing Woodsure | The UK’s only woodfuel certification scheme
6 January 2017
Woodsure is a not-for-profit organisation, striving to raise the quality of woodfuel in the industry. The Woodsure certification scheme and its logo shows woodfuel users the suppliers and products that they can trust. The team have extensive experience in the woodfuel industry and constantly evolve to keep pace with this rapidly developing sector.
What do we do?
The Woodsure Certification scheme comprehensively checks woodfuel producers to ensure that they produce and supply woodfuel to the correct standard. In order to avoid sub-standard fuel and the problems it causes, Woodsure Certification tests the products to EN and Önorm standards for woodfuel quality, which are the requirements that boiler manufacturers and installers specify their customers to use.
As appliances become more efficient, the role of fuel quality has never been more important. Ecodesign is the European-wide programme to lowering emissions. It is due to come into force in the UK in 2022. The main manufacturers in the SIA have decided to release stoves that will meet the lower emission limits now, six years early. Find out more about Ecodesign on the HETAS website.
Role of Fuel Quality
The role of fuel quality in reducing emissions has been recognised by Government. Click here to read an extract from a speech by Dr Thérèse Coffey MP on 15th December 2016 at Westminster. Woodsure, HETAS and others have been working with Dr Coffey’s department Defra, and with BEIS to help them understand that there must be a greater focus on wood fuel quality. There will be further meetings between Defra senior officials and representatives of industry over the coming weeks and months. We are pushing hard to ensure that the Woodsure scheme is seen as part of the on-going solution to promote good quality and appropriate fuel for the UK market.
